Previewing and Switching Between Multiple Custom Textures

Because RP Renames works client-side, you can experiment freely. Nothing about the rename is decided by the server beyond the normal anvil rename, so you can cycle through options until you like the look.

Try one, then try another

1. Rename your item to one entry from the list and take it out of the anvil.

2. Look at it in your inventory or hotbar to see the texture.

3. Put it back in the anvil, clear the name field, and pick a different entry.

4. Take it out again. The texture updates to match the new rename.

Things to know

  • Each rename costs XP at the anvil, so if you plan to test many options, do it in a creative test world first and only commit the final choice in survival.
  • The rename is stored on the item like any anvil name, so it travels with the item through chests, shulker boxes, and trading.
  • If two entries look identical in the list, they may map to different textures in the pack — pick each one and check the result rather than assuming they are duplicates.
  • Removing the custom name entirely (renaming back to the default) returns the item to its vanilla texture.
