How to Apply a Custom Texture to Your Tool Using RP Renames
RP Renames lets you pick a Custom Item Texture (CIT) rename directly from the anvil's name field, so you never have to memorize the exact string your resource pack expects.
Steps
1. Make sure the resource pack that contains the CIT or CEM renames is enabled in your resource pack list, and that RP Renames is loaded alongside it.
2. Place the item you want to retexture in the left slot of an anvil, and put the required repair material (or the item itself, depending on the anvil operation) in the right slot so the anvil will accept a rename.
3. Click into the name field. As you type, RP Renames surfaces matching rename entries from your packs in a dropdown/list below the field.
4. Click the entry you want. The name field fills with the exact string the pack is looking for.
5. Take the item out of the output slot. The anvil consumes the usual XP cost for renaming, and the item now carries the rename that triggers the custom texture.
Tips
- If nothing appears in the list, the pack you have enabled probably does not ship CIT/CEM renames, or the item type you are holding is not covered by any entry.
- Renames are case-sensitive in most packs, which is exactly why clicking the entry instead of typing is safer.
- You can re-open the anvil and rename again to swap to a different texture without losing the item.
