How to Plan a Villager Trading Hall Using the Profession List

Start With the List, Not the Build

Before laying down any blocks, open the profession list with the REI Uses key (U) on an emerald or villager spawn egg. You now have a complete catalogue of professions and their workstations. Decide which trades you actually want, then note the workstation block each chosen profession requires.

Mapping Workstations to Your Hall

1. Pick your target professions from the list.

2. For each one, note the workstation shown beside it.

3. Gather or craft one workstation per villager you plan to employ.

4. Build a stall per villager and place the matching workstation inside it.

5. Let an unemployed villager claim the workstation — it will convert to that profession.

Avoiding Common Mistakes

  • Do not place two workstations of the same type in one villager's reach if you want predictable results; a villager claims whichever valid block it finds.
  • If a profession never appears in your hall, double-check the workstation name against the list — modded professions often use blocks you would not expect.
  • Hold Shift in the list to confirm whether an unusual profession comes from a mod you actually want to support.

Scaling Up

Once the first stalls work, repeat the pattern. Because the list is registry-driven, it stays accurate as you add mods, so re-check it whenever you change your modpack.
