Roughly Enough Professions Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I open the villager profession list?
Hover over an emerald or a villager spawn egg in your inventory and press REI's Uses key, which is U by default. The list of all villager professions will appear in the REI overlay.
Why does pressing U on an emerald do nothing?
Make sure you're hovering the emerald in an inventory screen with REI open, not holding it in your hand. If another mod has rebound the Uses key, check your REI keybind settings and use whatever key is assigned there.
How do I see which workstation a profession needs?
Open the profession list with the Uses key on an emerald or villager spawn egg, then look at the entries — each profession is shown alongside the workstation block required to get it. You can then click through to that workstation's own REI page if you need its recipe.
Can I use this on a villager spawn egg instead of an emerald?
Yes, both work. Hover the villager spawn egg and press the Uses key to get the same profession list, which is handy when you already have spawn eggs in your inventory.
How do I find out which mod added a certain profession?
Open the profession list and hold Shift — the mod ID will be displayed in front of each profession name. This is useful when you have several mods adding villager professions and need to tell them apart.
A profession shows a mod ID I don't recognize — what does that mean?
It means that profession comes from a mod rather than vanilla Minecraft. Hold Shift in the list to reveal the ID, then match it against your mod list to identify the source.
Does this mod work without REI installed?
No, it's an REI plugin and relies on Roughly Enough Items to display its list. You need REI installed alongside it for the Uses key lookup to appear.
Is this compatible with mods that add their own villager professions?
Yes, that's a core part of what it does — professions from other mods show up in the list, and holding Shift reveals which mod added each one. You don't need a separate plugin for each profession-adding mod.
Can I use the profession list to plan a trading hall?
Yes. Look up each profession you want, note the workstation it requires, and place those workstations at the villager spots in your hall. The list tells you exactly which block to put down for each trade you're after.
Will this mod slow down my game or cause lag?
It only adds an REI lookup page, so it doesn't run anything in the background while you play. Any performance impact comes from REI itself rather than this plugin.
