Maintain High Framerates While Using the Shader
Verify Compatibility Setup
Confirm you have both Iris and Sodium installed alongside this shader. These mods are essential for maintaining performance. The shader is specifically optimized to work with them, so running it without them will cause significant lag.
Start with Conservative Settings
Begin with the shader's default or "performance" preset if available. This gives you a baseline. Run the game and check your FPS using F3 debug screen or a separate FPS counter.
Reduce Resource-Heavy Features
If framerates drop below your target, disable or lower: shadow distance, reflection quality, and ambient occlusion settings. These have the largest performance impact. Reduce them incrementally and retest after each change.
Monitor System Impact
Keep an eye on GPU and CPU usage while adjusting settings. If your GPU is maxed out, reduce visual quality. If your CPU is the bottleneck, lower shadow distance and reflection distance—these stress the CPU more than other settings.
Find Your Sweet Spot
Aim for stable FPS in your target range (60, 120, etc.) across different biomes and times of day. Caves and forests typically stress the system more than open plains, so test there.
