How to Rename and Redescribe Resource Packs in the Selection Menu
Why Rename Packs
Default pack names are often cryptic filenames. Renaming them to friendly labels and adding descriptions helps players understand what each pack does, especially in large modpacks with many bundled packs.
Editing the Display Name
Open the mod's config file and find the entry for the target pack. There will be fields for a display name and a description. Replace the display name with the text you want shown in the selection list. This does not rename the actual file — only the label in the UI.
Writing a Useful Description
Use the description field to explain what the pack changes, such as "Replaces vanilla GUI textures" or "Adds custom font for modded items." Keep it short so it fits in the tooltip. Save the file when done.
Applying Changes
Reload the config from the resource pack screen using the reload key, or restart the game if you prefer. The new name and description should appear immediately in the list. If they do not, verify you edited the correct pack entry and that the filename matches exactly, including capitalization.
