How to Make Resource Packs Load in the Background
What the Mod Changes
Once installed, Remove Reloading Screen Mod takes over the resource pack reload process automatically. You do not need to enable anything in a config file for the core behavior to work. When you apply a resource pack or press the reload keybind, the game no longer freezes on a full-screen overlay. Instead, the world stays visible and interactive while packs load behind the scenes.
Steps to Confirm It Is Working
1. Open Options, then Resource Packs.
2. Move a pack into the selected list and click Done.
3. Watch the screen: instead of a blocking overlay, you should see only a slim progress bar while the game continues rendering.
4. Try walking, opening your inventory, or looking around during the load. If the world responds, background loading is active.
5. If you still get a full freeze, another mod or a resource pack with a broken pack.mcmeta may be forcing a synchronous reload. Remove packs one at a time to isolate the culprit.
Things to Keep in Mind
Loading in the background means textures and models may pop in gradually. This is expected, not a bug. Avoid applying multiple large packs in quick succession, since queued reloads can stack and cause stutter. If you use OptiFine, the mod is designed to coexist with it, and custom colors defined by your pack should still apply once loading finishes.
