Reduce Performance Impact on Lower-End Computers
Identify Performance Bottlenecks
Even though REM Shaders is lightweight, older computers may experience lag. Check your frame rate using F3 (Debug Screen) to see if performance dips below your target.
Lower Shadow Quality
Shadows are often the most demanding feature. In shader options, look for shadow distance, shadow quality, or shadow resolution settings. Reducing these will:
- Decrease the render distance of shadows
- Lower the detail of shadow edges
- Free up GPU resources for smoother gameplay
Disable or Reduce Bloom
Turn down bloom intensity or disable it entirely if you need more performance. The bloom effect, while beautiful, adds extra processing for glow calculations.
Adjust Other Settings
Look for options like ambient occlusion, reflections, or water quality. Disabling or lowering these can provide noticeable improvements without losing the shader's core aesthetic.
Monitor Results
After each change, play for a few minutes in varied terrain to confirm frame rates improve. Small adjustments often yield significant performance gains.
