Survive Zombie Rushes in Open Terrain
Recognize Your Vulnerability
Zombies now swim through water and ignore fall damage, making traditional escape routes unreliable. Open terrain offers few natural defenses.
Immediate Survival Tactics
Build vertical quickly: Carry blocks at all times. When rushed, stack blocks upward faster than zombies can climb. Aim for at least 4 blocks high to create breathing room.
Use boats strategically: While zombies can swim, they move slower in water than on land. A boat lets you cross bodies of water faster than pursuing zombies, but don't rely on water alone as a barrier.
Create temporary shelters: Build small 2×2 pillar structures with a roof. Zombies will attempt to stack, but the confined space limits how many can reach you simultaneously.
Sprint to higher ground: Identify natural hills, mountains, or cliffs before you need them. Zombies will leap down without hesitation, so only use this as a last resort to buy time for a better escape.
Carry escape supplies: Keep wood, dirt, or cobblestone in your hotbar. These allow instant pillar construction when surrounded.
