Find Hidden Coat Color and Pattern Variants

Special Nametag Names for Unique Looks

Beyond standard breed names, the Refined Dogs pack includes secret texture variants you can unlock using special nametag names. These hidden variants give your dogs unique coat colors and patterns that aren't available through regular breed selection.

How to Unlock Variants

1. Tame a wolf and prepare a nametag at an anvil

2. Instead of typing a breed name, try special keywords like "colorful" or "spotted"

3. Rename your tamed dog using the nametag as normal

4. Right-click your wolf to apply the new appearance

These special names trigger alternate textures for compatible breeds, letting you customize coat patterns and colors beyond the default look. Experiment with descriptive words related to appearance—different breeds may respond to different variant names. If a name doesn't work, your dog will simply keep its current appearance, so there's no penalty for trying. Check community forums or the mod documentation for a complete list of available variant names for each breed.
