Using Nametags to Select Breeds

The easiest way to get a specific dog breed is through the nametag system. First, tame a wolf by giving it bones until hearts appear above its head. Once tamed, you'll need a nametag and an anvil.

Steps to Rename Your Dog

1. Place an anvil in your world

2. Open your inventory and grab a nametag

3. Place the nametag in the anvil's input slot

4. In the text field, type the exact breed name you want (for example: "Husky", "Golden Retriever", "Chihuahua", or "German Shepherd")

5. Take the renamed nametag from the anvil output

6. Equip the nametag and right-click on your tamed wolf

Your wolf will instantly transform into the breed you named. The pack includes over 50 real-world dog breeds, so you have plenty of options. If you're unsure of exact breed names, try common dog types—most will work. You can rename the same dog multiple times if you want to change its appearance later.
