Using Recipe Unlocker on a Multiplayer Server

Why It Works on Servers

Recipe Unlocker is a client-side mod, meaning it runs on your own game and does not need to be installed on the server. The recipe book is a client-side interface, so the mod can populate it with all recipes locally without the server sending unlock packets. This is why it functions on vanilla servers and most plugin-based servers without any server-side changes.

Getting Permission First

Before using it on someone else's server, check the rules. Some servers consider unlocking recipes a form of cheating or an unfair advantage, and staff may treat it as such even though it is technically client-side. Ask an admin or read the server rules page. On servers you own or where you have explicit permission, you can use it freely.

What Still Won't Work

Because the mod only affects the recipe book display, it cannot bypass server-side restrictions on actual crafting. If a server disables certain recipes, blocks items, or uses a custom crafting system, those limitations still apply. You will see the vanilla recipe, but the server may reject the craft. Similarly, recipes added by server-side mods or datapacks that your client does not have will not appear. The mod shows recipes your client knows about; it does not download recipes from the server.
