What Happens When a Bee Loses Its Stinger and How to Handle It

The stinger mechanic

When a bee stings a player or mob, it may leave its stinger behind. You will see an in-game message indicating this. Leaving it in place keeps the poison effect active longer.

The bee's fate

A bee that has lost its stinger is doomed. It will die after roughly one minute, and you will see a yellow particle effect marking it during its final moments. This mirrors real-world bee biology and is a core part of the mod's realism. There is no way to save a stingerless bee — it is a one-way trip.

Managing the aftermath

  • If you want to avoid losing bees, do not provoke them in the first place. A stingerless bee is a dead bee.
  • If a bee stings a mob instead of you, the same rules apply to that bee.
  • Keep shears in your hotbar if you expect stings, so you can remove stingers from yourself or allies quickly and cut the poison short.
  • Remember that nearby bees join the attack, so one sting can quickly become many, meaning multiple bees may lose their stingers and die. Disengage early to minimize losses.
