Maintaining Performance While Using High-Resolution Textures
Why Resolution Affects Performance
Realism Upscaled uses high-detail photographic textures, which demand more video memory and processing power than vanilla textures. The pack's visual quality comes at a performance cost, especially on lower-end systems or when combined with shaders.
Performance Optimization Steps
1. Reduce render distance if you experience lag—high-resolution textures are more demanding at distance
2. Lower chunk updates per frame in Video Settings
3. Disable or reduce shader features like shadows and ambient occlusion if using shaders together
4. Close unnecessary background applications to free up system memory
5. Consider using a lower-resolution variant of the pack if available
Monitoring and Adjusting
Watch your frame rate (F3 debug screen) while exploring different biomes. Desert and mountain areas with large stone surfaces may impact performance more than forests. Test in creative mode first to find your optimal settings before playing survival.
If you experience stuttering, prioritize reducing shader intensity over removing the resource pack—the textures alone are less demanding than shaders. Balance visual quality with smooth gameplay by adjusting one setting at a time and testing the results.
