Optimize Performance While Maintaining Visual Quality
Identify Performance Bottlenecks
Monitor your frame rate in-game (usually F3 in vanilla Minecraft). Open shader settings and note which features are most demanding: ray-marched reflections, global illumination, and shadow quality typically consume the most resources.
Reduce Settings Strategically
Start by lowering these in order of impact:
- Reflection Distance: Reduce how far reflections trace across the screen.
- GI Samples: Fewer samples speed up light bouncing calculations.
- Shadow Distance: Render shadows only closer to the camera.
- Ray March Steps: Decrease the precision of reflection and GI calculations.
Test and Balance
After each adjustment, play for a minute and check frame rate. The goal is finding the lowest setting that still looks good to you. You may accept slightly softer reflections or less detailed shadows to maintain smooth gameplay. Different areas of your world may perform differently—test in forests, caves, and open areas. If you're still struggling, consider lowering render distance or disabling advanced features temporarily.
