Fine-Tune Shadow Softness and Sun Position

Access Shadow Settings

Open the shader menu and find the Shadows or Shadow Quality section. These options control how soft shadows appear and how they respond to day/night cycles.

Adjust Shadow Parameters

Key settings include:

  • Shadow Distance: How far from the camera shadows are rendered. Closer distances improve performance.
  • Shadow Softness: Controls the blur and penumbra of shadow edges. Higher values create softer, more realistic shadows; lower values produce sharp, defined edges.
  • Shadow Intensity: Darkens or lightens all shadows uniformly.
  • Sun/Moon Tracking: Ensures shadows rotate as the sun and moon move across the sky.

Observe and Refine

Watch shadows throughout a full day-night cycle. At sunrise and sunset, shadows should stretch long and soft across terrain. At noon, they should be shorter and sharper directly beneath objects. If shadows look too harsh, increase softness. If they're too blurry and unrealistic, decrease it. Adjust intensity so shadowed areas remain visible but distinctly darker than lit areas.
