Optimize Performance While Using Outlines
Reduce Render Distance if Needed
Outline rendering increases GPU load because the shader must calculate and draw borders for every visible block and entity. If you experience frame rate drops, lower your render distance in video settings. This reduces the number of objects the shader must process each frame.
Disable or Lower Secondary Effects
Check shader options for additional visual effects like shadows, ambient occlusion, or bloom that may be enabled alongside outlines. Disabling these can significantly improve performance while keeping the core outline effect intact.
Adjust Outline Quality Settings
Some shader packs offer outline quality or detail levels. Switching from high to medium or low quality reduces the computational cost while maintaining the cartoon aesthetic.
Monitor Frame Rate
Use the F3 debug screen to watch your FPS while adjusting settings. Make one change at a time and test for at least 30 seconds in varied terrain to get an accurate performance reading. Balance visual quality with smooth gameplay based on your hardware capabilities.
