How to Earn Skill Experience and Level Up Faster
What Grants Experience
Pufferfish's Skills awards experience for the actions each skill tree is configured to track. In a typical setup this includes killing mobs, mining ores and stone, chopping wood, harvesting crops, fishing, and sometimes crafting or smelting. Each tree has its own experience bar, so mining levels your mining tree while combat levels your combat tree.
You gain experience passively by simply playing. There is no button to press — the mod watches your actions and adds experience to the matching tree.
Speeding Up the Grind
- Do the tracked action repeatedly. Experience is per-action, so volume matters more than variety. Strip mining, mob farms, and large crop fields all pay off.
- Check which trees exist on your server. A pack may add custom trees for things you already do, like exploring or trading, so you might be leveling something without realizing it.
- Look for experience-boosting nodes. Some trees contain nodes that increase the experience you gain from that tree's actions. Unlocking these early compounds over a long play session.
- Use commands if you are an operator. The mod provides
/puffish_skillscommands for adding or setting points, which is useful for testing builds or running a server event.
Leveling a tree is what generates the ability points you then spend on nodes, so faster leveling means faster access to the stronger upgrades deeper in each tree.
