How to Build a Combat Character with Skill Trees
Picking Your Combat Trees
Combat-focused trees usually split into offensive and defensive branches. Offensive nodes raise melee damage, ranged damage, or attack speed. Defensive nodes raise maximum health, armor, or damage resistance. Before spending anything, open the menu with K and read every node in the tree so you know where the branches lead.
A Practical Spending Order
1. Unlock the cheap early nodes first. Low-cost nodes near the root give small but immediate stat boosts and often act as prerequisites for everything below them.
2. Commit to one damage type. Splitting points between melee and ranged leaves you mediocre at both. Pick the weapon you actually use.
3. Add survivability once your damage feels good. Health and resistance nodes let you stay in fights longer, which in turn earns more combat experience.
4. Save for the capstone nodes. The deepest nodes in a tree are the strongest but expensive, so bank points rather than spending them on marginal upgrades.
Testing Your Build
After unlocking nodes, check your character stats in the menu to confirm the numbers changed. If a node does not seem to apply, make sure its prerequisite is unlocked and that the tree is not disabled by the server. If you want to experiment freely, ask an operator to use the /puffish_skills points add command to grant yourself extra points, then respec once you find a setup you like.
