Achieve the Best Cartoon Look for Building and Exploration
Understand the Shader's Art Style
PS2 Shaders creates a cartoon aesthetic by emphasizing block edges and simplifying colors. This style works best with certain block palettes and building techniques.
Choose Complementary Blocks
Blocks with flat, solid colors (stone, dirt, wood, concrete) look better than highly detailed or noisy textures. Avoid mixing too many different block types in small areas—the cartoon effect can make busy designs look cluttered.
Optimize Lighting for Visibility
The shader's retro filter can darken scenes. Use torches, lanterns, and other light sources generously, especially indoors. Bright lighting enhances the cartoon look and keeps details visible.
Adjust Shader Settings for Your Build
If your structure looks too dark or washed out, return to Shader Options and adjust:
- Brightness/Contrast: Increase if details disappear.
- Saturation: Boost color vibrancy for more striking builds.
- Bloom: Enhance to make lit areas pop.
Explore Different Times of Day
The shader's effect changes with lighting conditions. Visit your builds at sunrise, noon, and sunset to see which time of day showcases your work best under the retro filter.
