Customizing Mob Animations for Specific Creatures
Access Animation Files
Resource packs store animation data in JSON files organized by mob type. Navigate to the animations folder within the pack and locate the file for the mob you want to customize (e.g., zombie.json, creeper.json).
Edit Animation Keyframes
Animation files define poses at specific frames. You can adjust rotation, position, and scale values for individual body parts. For example, modify a Zombie's arm swing speed by changing keyframe timing or rotation angles.
Preserve Programmer Art Compatibility
When editing animations, focus only on timing and movement—don't alter texture references. Changing texture paths will break the Programmer Art integration. Stick to transform values (rotation, position, scale).
Test Changes Incrementally
Make one small change, reload, and observe the mob in-game. This prevents cascading errors and helps you understand how each value affects movement. Test both idle and active states (walking, attacking, taking damage).
Document Your Changes
Keep notes of modifications you make. This helps you troubleshoot if something breaks and makes it easier to share customizations with others.
