How to Make Footsteps Match the Block You're Walking On

Why footsteps sound wrong

Presence Footsteps plays a different sound depending on the block under your feet, but it decides this from the block you are standing on, not the block you are looking at. If you hear stone clicks on a wooden floor, you are almost certainly standing on a block whose sound profile does not match what you expect.

Getting the right sound

1. Walk slowly across the surface and listen for where the sound changes. The transition point tells you which block the mod is reading.

2. Check the block directly beneath your feet, not the block in front of you. Carpets, snow layers, and slabs sit on top of another block and can change what the mod picks up.

3. If you are on a custom or modded block that has no footstep sound assigned, the mod falls back to a generic sound. This is expected behaviour, not a bug.

4. For surfaces built from multiple block types, expect the sound to switch as you cross each boundary. Building a floor out of one material gives you a consistent sound.

Things that change the result

Sneaking, sprinting, and jumping all use different sound sets, so test while walking normally first. Standing still produces no footstep at all, which is normal.
