How to Fix Footsteps That Are Silent or Sound Wrong After Installing Other Mods

Start with the obvious

Silent footsteps after adding mods is usually a resource pack or sound conflict, not a broken install. Before changing anything, confirm the mod is actually loaded by checking your mod list in game.

Narrowing it down

1. Remove or disable any resource packs that replace sounds, then reload and test. Packs that ship their own sound files can override the mod's entries.

2. If you use a pack you want to keep, move it below other packs in the pack list and test again. Load order decides which pack wins.

3. Check whether the problem is only on certain blocks. If vanilla stone and dirt work but a modded block is silent, that block simply has no footstep sound defined and nothing is broken.

4. If everything is silent, test in a fresh world with only this mod and its required dependencies enabled. If sound returns, add your other mods back a few at a time until it stops.

After you find the culprit

Report the conflict to the mod author of whichever mod is overriding sounds, and include which blocks were affected. Keep a note of the working combination so you can restore it if a future update changes things.
