How to Change or Lower the Volume of Footstep Sounds
Where the sound comes from
Presence Footsteps registers its sounds on the game's own sound system, so it respects the sliders in Options > Music & Sound rather than having a separate menu. That means you can tune it without touching the mod itself.
Adjusting the level
1. Open Options, then Music & Sound.
2. Find the Players slider. This controls footsteps made by you and by other players, so lowering it also quiets other people on a server.
3. If you only want to quiet the environment, leave Players alone and lower Blocks instead. Blocks covers a lot of world ambience, so change it in small steps and test.
4. Set Master to control everything at once if you want a quick mute while recording or listening to something else.
When you want footsteps gone entirely
Turning the Players slider all the way down is the cleanest way to silence them. Avoid disabling the mod in your mod list just to mute sound, because you will also lose the visual and audio feedback that other parts of your setup may rely on. If you play with subtitles on, footstep entries will still appear in the subtitle list even at low volume, which is useful for spotting nearby mobs.
