Making Two Mods Work Together When One Needs Porting Lib

Understand the dependency chain

Porting Lib exists so that mods originally written for a Forge-style loader can run on Fabric or Quilt. When you mix mods, the ones that depend on Porting Lib expect certain behaviors, such as Forge-like tags, transfer APIs, or networking helpers. Conflicts appear when another mod provides a competing implementation of the same thing.

Practical steps

1. List every mod in your pack that mentions Porting Lib on its project page. These are your dependent mods.

2. Check for duplicate functionality. If two mods both add their own item transfer or tag handling, they may fight over the same registry entries.

3. Remove one of the overlapping mods and test. Keep the one whose features you actually use.

4. If both are required, check whether either has a config toggle to disable its own implementation and defer to the other.

5. Launch a fresh test world after each change. Loading an existing world with a changed mod set can hide or create errors unrelated to the conflict.

When it still fails

Conflicts inside library code are rarely fixable from the player side. Your realistic options are choosing between the two mods, or waiting for one of them to update. Report the conflict to the mod author whose mod you would rather keep, and include the full log.
