How to Reload roles.json Without Restarting the Server

Why reloading matters

The Player Roles Mod is built for rapid iteration: you can edit roles.json and apply the changes at runtime instead of restarting. This lets you tweak permissions while players are online and see the effect immediately.

Edit then reload

Open config/roles.json, make your changes, and save the file. Then run the mod's reload command from the server console or as an operator in-game. The mod re-reads the JSON and applies the new role definitions and permission overrides to players who are currently connected.

Fix mistakes fast

If the reload fails or permissions behave oddly, the usual cause is invalid JSON — a missing comma, a stray bracket, or a trailing comma. Validate the file with any JSON checker before reloading. If a role you expected isn't applying, confirm the role is actually assigned to the player and that its key matches exactly. Because everyone is always active and cannot be removed, always check whether the base role is the one granting a permission before blaming your new override.
