What Placebo actually is

Placebo is not a gameplay mod you install for new blocks, mobs, or items. It is a shared code library — a dependency — that other mods by the same author build on top of. Its job is to hold common code so those mods do not each have to reinvent it.

That means you generally do not "play" Placebo. You install it because something else needs it. If you downloaded a mod that lists Placebo as a required dependency, Placebo must be present for that mod to load and run correctly.

What to expect

On its own, Placebo adds nothing you will notice in-world. There is no Placebo item, no Placebo effect, and no Placebo block to craft. If you are searching for a potion-style placebo effect or a way to take placebo pills, that is a different topic entirely and has nothing to do with this mod.

If a dependent mod fails to load or crashes on startup, a missing or mismatched Placebo is a common cause. Keep it installed alongside the mods that require it.
