Paint a Biome Map to Control Where Biomes Spawn
Understand Biome Map Colors
Create a second image file matching your heightmap's dimensions. This biome map uses solid colors to designate where each biome appears in your world. Each distinct color represents one biome type—for example, green for forests, white for snow biomes, sand-yellow for deserts, and blue for ocean.
Paint Your Biome Regions
Use an image editor like Aseprite, Photoshop, or GIMP to paint large solid-color regions onto your biome map. Avoid gradients, dithering, or color blending—the mod reads exact color values, so use flat, uniform colors. Paint regions that align with your heightmap's terrain features: place snow biomes on high peaks, forests in valleys, and ocean colors in deep trenches.
Save Correctly
Export your biome map as an 8-bit RGBA PNG file. This format ensures color accuracy without unwanted compression. Name it clearly and save it alongside your heightmap in your datapack's dimension folder.
Verify Coverage
Check that your entire map is painted—unpainted areas may cause generation errors or default to unexpected biomes.
