Create a Custom Heightmap from Terrain Software
Prepare Your Heightmap Image
Start by obtaining or creating a grayscale heightmap. You can use terrain generation software, download heightmaps from online archives, or export from tools like World Machine or Gaea. The image should be a PNG file where brightness represents elevation—pure white is the highest point, black is the lowest.
Export Settings
When exporting your heightmap, ensure it's saved as a standard PNG without compression artifacts that might blur the grayscale values. The mod reads pixel brightness directly, so clarity matters. Avoid color gradients or anti-aliasing; stick to pure grayscale.
Prepare for Your Datapack
Note the image dimensions—this determines your world's size. A 512×512 image creates a smaller explorable area, while 2048×2048 or larger generates vast landscapes. Keep your heightmap file organized and ready to place into your datapack's dimension configuration folder in the next steps.
Test Your Map
Before committing to a full world, consider testing your heightmap at a smaller scale first to verify the terrain matches your vision.
