How to Read Player Ping with PingHUD
Numerical Ping in the Player List
PingHUD changes how connection quality is shown in the player list. Instead of the vanilla bar graph indicator, each player's ping appears as a number.
The bar graph only gives a rough sense of latency, since it groups connections into broad tiers. A numerical readout shows the actual value, so you can tell two players apart even when their bars look identical. This makes it easier to judge whether someone's connection is genuinely poor or just slightly below average.
Because the value updates as the player list refreshes, you can watch ping change over time. This is useful when diagnosing lag: if a player's number climbs steadily, their connection is degrading, while a stable number suggests the problem lies elsewhere.
Server administrators benefit most, since they can scan the list and immediately spot who is struggling. No configuration is needed — install the mod and the player list displays numbers in place of bars.
