Troubleshoot Flickering, Grain, or Inconsistent Lighting

Identify Flickering Causes

Flickering often occurs when path tracing sample counts are too low or when temporal filtering isn't working properly. Check your shader settings for sample count or quality options and increase them gradually.

Reduce Visible Grain

Grain appears when the shader doesn't have enough samples to smooth out lighting calculations. Increase path tracing quality or sample count in settings. If performance tanks, lower other settings like reflection quality instead.

Check Temporal Filtering

Many shaders use temporal filtering to smooth results across frames. Ensure this feature is enabled in your shader options. If it's causing ghosting or motion artifacts, look for a temporal stability slider and adjust it.

Verify Lighting Consistency

Inconsistent lighting between frames suggests insufficient convergence time. Increase sample count or quality settings.

Test Different Conditions

Flickering may only appear in specific situations: caves with torches, sunset lighting, or near water. Test these scenarios after adjusting settings to confirm improvements. If issues persist in particular areas, try lowering reflection quality or disabling advanced features temporarily.
