How to Stop Large Modpack Crashes Caused by Oversized NBT and Packets

Why the Crash Happens

In a large modpack, machines, backpacks, and storage systems can hold enormous amounts of data. When that data is written into an NBT tag or bundled into a packet and sent to the client or server, it can exceed the size the vanilla game allows. The game then throws an error and disconnects or crashes. Packet Fixer raises those internal limits so the data can pass through instead of being rejected.

What to Do

1. Install the mod on both the client and the server. A size limit raised on one side only will still fail on the other.

2. Reproduce the crash once so you know which action triggers it (opening a specific GUI, breaking a machine, loading a chunk).

3. If the crash still occurs, reduce the amount of data in the offending block: split a giant storage item into several smaller ones, or empty a machine before moving it.

4. Watch the log for the packet or NBT error line. If the same error persists, the payload is beyond even the raised limit and must be reduced at the source.

After the Fix

Once packets pass through, you should be able to open the previously crashing GUI and travel through the affected chunks without a disconnect. Keep the mod installed permanently in modpacks that use heavy storage, tech, or worldgen mods.
