How to Fix Connection Timeouts and Kicks on a Modded Server
The Symptom
You join a modded server and get kicked shortly after connecting, or you time out while loading into a chunk-dense area. This often happens when the server tries to send a large burst of data — chunk data, entity data, or a big inventory sync — and the transfer takes longer than the connection timeout allows.
Steps to Reduce Timeouts
1. Confirm Packet Fixer is present on the server. Client-only installation will not help with server-side sending.
2. Lower your render distance. Fewer chunks in view means fewer and smaller chunk packets competing for the connection.
3. Avoid joining while standing in an area packed with entities or active machines. Log in at a quiet spot, then travel to the busy area.
4. If you use a proxy or tunnel, check that it is not adding latency. High ping makes any large packet more likely to time out.
5. Retry the connection. Some timeouts are one-off spikes; if they repeat at the same location, that location is generating oversized data.
What the Mod Changes
Packet Fixer prevents chunk packets from consuming excessive memory and handles payloads that exceed the normal allowed size, which removes a common cause of mid-connection drops. It reduces timeout problems but does not replace a stable network — combine it with sensible render distance and server settings.
