How to Enable Shaders in Optimized FPS Modpack Without Killing Your FPS
Check Your Current FPS First
Before adding shaders, press F3 to view your current frame rate while standing in a busy area. This gives you a baseline. Shaders add a second rendering pass on top of your normal world rendering, so the drop you see after enabling them is what you're balancing against.
Installing and Selecting a Shader
1. Open the video settings from the pause menu.
2. Locate the shader options entry (it appears once a shader-capable rendering mod is present in the pack).
3. Open the shader pack folder from that screen and drop your shader pack archive into it.
4. Return to the game and select the pack from the shader list.
Tuning for Playable Performance
Start with a lightweight shader preset rather than a heavy one. Inside the shader settings, reduce or disable the most expensive effects first: shadow resolution, volumetric clouds, and screen-space reflections. Lowering shadow distance usually recovers more FPS than any other single setting. If your frame rate is still unstable, drop your render distance by a few chunks before touching shader options further, since render distance multiplies the cost of everything else. Test each change while moving through terrain, not standing still, because stutter shows up during chunk loading and camera movement.
