Efficiently Mine Through Random Block Layers
Understand the Layer Structure
Each horizontal layer contains different random blocks. Some layers are mostly stone, others mix in ores, dirt, or unexpected materials. You'll need different tools for different blocks—a wooden pickaxe won't mine stone efficiently, and stone won't break obsidian.
Plan Your Descent Route
Dig straight down through the center of your chunk, or spiral outward as you descend. A straight vertical shaft is fastest but leaves you vulnerable to mobs falling from above. A spiral gives you more control and lets you see what's coming.
Tool Progression
Start with wood tools to mine stone. Once you find stone, craft a stone pickaxe to mine iron ore. Iron tools let you access diamonds and other valuable ores. Keep upgrading as you find better materials.
Mine Strategically
Don't strip-mine every block. Focus on ore veins and useful materials. Leave dirt and gravel unless you need them for building. This saves time and inventory space. When you hit a layer with many mobs, consider mining around them rather than engaging—you'll progress faster.
