Building a Base or Settlement in the Fortress

Claim an Intact Tower

Select a tower that still has most of its walls and roof intact. These provide natural shelter and require minimal building work. Clear out any mobs, add torches for safety, and use the existing structure as your base framework. Towers offer excellent vertical organization for storage and crafting areas.

Repair Damaged Sections

Use stone blocks matching the fortress architecture to repair holes in walls and roofs. This protects your base from weather and mob spawning. Focus on weathered stone and similar materials to maintain the medieval aesthetic while improving functionality.

Utilize Courtyard Space

The main courtyard provides open space for farms, animal pens, and crafting stations. Build structures that complement the ruins rather than clash with them. Consider creating a small walled garden or workshop area using the existing broken walls as partial boundaries.

Secure Against Falls

Add railings and fencing to dangerous edges, especially near the waterfalls and cliff sides. Use materials that fit the setting—wooden or iron railings work better than modern blocks. This prevents accidental deaths while maintaining immersion.

Connect Multiple Towers

Build enclosed walkways or reinforced bridges between towers to create a connected settlement. This gives you multiple secure routes and expands your usable space significantly.
