Understand Swing Animation Mechanics
How Swing Animations Work
Old Combat Mod restores the pre-1.9 hand swing animation, which provides visual feedback distinct from modern Minecraft.
1. When you attack, your character's arm swings in a smooth arc
2. The animation plays regardless of whether you hit a target
3. Multiple rapid swings create a continuous motion effect
4. The animation is purely visual and doesn't affect damage or cooldown
Visual Feedback Benefits
The swing animation serves as immediate confirmation that your click registered:
- You see your arm move even if the target is out of range
- Rapid clicks produce a rhythmic swinging pattern
- This helps you maintain consistent attack timing
- It's easier to judge distance and positioning with visual feedback
The animation is faster and more fluid than modern Minecraft's attack animation, contributing to the snappier feel of old-style combat.
