Maintain Vanilla Minecraft Aesthetics While Using Shaders

Understand OD Horizon's Design Philosophy

This shader pack is built to enhance without replacing vanilla visuals. It adds lighting depth and shadow clarity while preserving blocky, familiar textures and colors.

Configure Conservative Settings

In the shader menu, keep these principles:

  • Shadow Softness: Use moderate blur—not too crisp, not too blurry. Vanilla blocks should remain recognizable.
  • Colored Light Saturation: Lower intensity prevents neon-like effects. Light should tint surroundings subtly.
  • Foliage Detail: Enable gentle rendering, not extreme smoothing. Trees and grass should look natural but not photorealistic.

Avoid Extreme Customization

Don't maximize all sliders. Overly aggressive shadows or oversaturated colored light breaks the vanilla feel. Test changes in familiar biomes—plains, forests, deserts—where you know how vanilla lighting should appear.

Disable Conflicting Features (if applicable)

If the shader offers ambient occlusion, bloom, or tone mapping, keep these subtle or disabled. These effects can drift away from vanilla aesthetics quickly.

Reference Vanilla Comparison

Periodically disable shaders (toggle with a hotkey) and re-enable them. The difference should feel like a lighting upgrade, not a visual overhaul.
