How the Obituary Mod Works

Death Notifications for Named Mobs

The Obituary Mod watches for one specific event: a mob that has been given a name dying. When that happens, it posts a chat notification so you do not have to keep checking on your favorite mobs yourself.

The notification tells you the mob's name and the cause of death. This means named pets, named farm animals, and any other named mob you are tracking can be monitored from anywhere in the world, as long as you can see chat.

To use it, simply name a mob the same way you normally would, then go about your business. If that mob dies, the mod reports it in chat. There is nothing else to configure or manage.

The mod is single-purpose by design. It does not add items, blocks, or commands, and it does not change how mobs behave. It only observes named mob deaths and informs you, making it useful for players who keep named animals or other named mobs and want to know immediately if something happens to them.
