Enable and Configure Water Reflections

Verify Shader is Active

Confirm NPC Shaders is selected in your shader loader (Iris, Oculus, or OptiFine). Open the shader selection menu and ensure NPC Shaders appears as the active shader.

Access Reflection Settings

Press Shift + O to open shader options. Look for reflection-related settings, typically grouped under "Water" or "Reflections."

Adjust Reflection Quality

Reflection settings control how detailed water surfaces appear:

  • Reflection Resolution: Higher values show more detailed reflections of sky, terrain, and structures but cost more performance
  • Reflection Distance: Controls how far reflections render from the player
  • Reflection Smoothness: Affects how realistic water surface distortion appears

Observe Changes

Walk to a river, lake, or ocean and watch how the water surface now mirrors your surroundings. Reflections update as the sun and moon move across the sky, creating dynamic lighting effects.

Optimize for Your System

If reflections cause lag, reduce the reflection resolution or distance. Lower-end machines may need minimal reflection settings to maintain smooth gameplay while still enjoying the visual enhancement.
