How to Combine NoFog Mod with a Low Render Distance for Better Performance
The core idea
NoFog Mod is built for players who cannot afford a high render distance. By removing fog, the mod makes a small render distance feel much bigger, so you get more visible world without paying the performance cost of loading more chunks.
Setting it up
1. Lower your render distance in video settings to a value your PC handles smoothly. Test a few values and watch your frame rate.
2. Keep the mod enabled so the fog that would normally hide the chunk edge is gone.
3. Turn off other heavy visual options that compete for performance, such as fancy leaves or high particle settings, if you need more headroom.
4. Walk around and confirm the world stays visible to the chunk boundary without stuttering.
Tuning tips
If you still see a hard cutoff that bothers you, nudge render distance up by one step and recheck performance. If frame rate drops, step back down. The sweet spot is the largest render distance your PC can hold steady, since the mod already removes the fog that would otherwise waste that visible space. Avoid raising render distance just to hide the cutoff, as that defeats the mod's purpose.
