Finding Ores and Resources Without Caves

Locating Ores Underground

Without caves, ore hunting requires a different approach. Ores still generate in the stone layers below ground, but you'll need to mine deliberately rather than explore cave systems.

Strip Mining Strategy

Create a horizontal tunnel at a specific Y-level and mine in a straight line, leaving pillars every few blocks for support. This exposes ore veins in the surrounding stone. Lower Y-levels contain rarer ores like diamonds and ancient debris. Mine at Y-level -59 to 0 for the best variety of valuable ores.

Branch Mining

From your main tunnel, dig perpendicular branches every few blocks. This creates a grid pattern that maximizes ore discovery in a smaller area. Space branches 3 blocks apart to ensure you don't miss any ore veins.

Finding Lava and Water

Lava pools still generate underground naturally. Dig downward cautiously and listen for flowing liquid sounds. Water is rarer underground in this data pack, so bring water buckets from the surface if you need them for mining safety or crafting.
