Reduce Lag While Using NightOwl Shaders
Lower Visual Quality Settings
NightOwl Shaders is designed to be lightweight, but you can optimize further. Open Shader Options and look for:
- Shadow quality: Reduce shadow resolution or disable dynamic shadows
- Ambient occlusion: Lower the intensity or disable it entirely
- Reflection quality: Decrease water and surface reflection detail
- Render distance for effects: Limit how far lighting calculations extend
Adjust Minecraft Video Settings
In your main Video Settings, also consider:
- Lowering render distance if you haven't already
- Disabling clouds or setting them to fast
- Reducing particle effects
- Turning off smooth lighting if performance is critical
Monitor Performance
Use the F3 debug screen to watch your frame rate while making changes. Even small reductions in shader quality often yield noticeable FPS improvements. NightOwl Shaders should maintain playable performance on older hardware; if you're still experiencing lag, your system may need additional optimization beyond shader settings.
