Navigating the Expanded Nether Without Getting Stuck
Understanding the New Layout
The datapack removes frustrating lava barriers that previously blocked exploration paths. This means you can now traverse the Nether more freely without hitting dead ends. However, planning your route still matters.
Use the top layers: The top 32 layers of the Nether are now pure netherrack with small caves. These areas provide relatively open terrain for travel and building pathways. Use them as highways between destinations.
Avoid the lava ocean: Caves no longer extend below the lava ocean level, so the lower Nether is safer but still contains lava. Stay aware of your Y-coordinate and plan descents carefully.
Creating Safe Routes
Build bridges or pathways through open areas to establish reliable travel routes. The taller Nether gives you more vertical options—you can route around obstacles by going higher. Mark important locations with beacons or torches so you can navigate confidently. The improved structure makes it easier to plan efficient paths than vanilla, so take time to scout before committing to a route.
