Exploring Safer Caves

The datapack redesigns cave generation so they no longer extend into the lava ocean, making lower-level exploration significantly safer. You can mine with less fear of sudden lava exposure.

Bring essential supplies: Pack water buckets, food, and a bed. Even improved caves can have lava pockets, and you'll want escape options. Torches help you navigate and mark your path back.

Mine strategically: Work methodically through caves rather than rushing. The improved structure means caves are more navigable, so you can plan your mining pattern in advance.

Watch for ore: With better cave generation, you'll find more quartz and other ores on exposed walls. The open areas make spotting resources easier than in cramped vanilla caves.

Managing Lava Safely

While caves are safer, lava still exists. Never dig directly into unknown blocks—always mine carefully and listen for lava sounds. If you encounter lava, place water immediately to create obsidian or safe passage. The removed lava barriers mean you're less likely to hit impassable walls, so you can usually find alternate routes if needed.
