Navigate the Nether safely on floating islands
Prepare for island hopping
The Nether now generates as separate floating islands instead of a solid landscape. This means you'll need to plan routes carefully to avoid falling into the void.
Bring a supply of blocks—wood, cobblestone, or dirt—to build bridges between islands. Carry a water bucket to break falls if you slip, though water behaves unpredictably in the Nether. Consider bringing a Ender Pearl or building blocks to create safe landing platforms.
Explore systematically
When you spawn or travel to a new area, scout the immediate islands first. Map out which biomes are nearby and identify safe paths between them. Islands vary in size and height, so don't assume you can jump between distant ones.
Use higher vantage points to spot other islands in the distance. If you need to descend, build a staircase or pillar rather than risking a fall. Keep track of your coordinates so you can return to your base.
Watch for lava pools
Lava now appears as floating pools on islands rather than filling caverns. These are easier to spot but still dangerous. Avoid walking near their edges, and use blocks to create barriers if you're building near them.
