Using Name Tags to Control Cat Breed

When a cat spawns naturally in Minecraft, its breed is randomly determined. To obtain a specific breed, you'll need to use a name tag combined with the breed keywords this resource pack supports.

Steps

1. Obtain a name tag through fishing, loot chests, or crafting

2. Check the supported name tags list in the resource pack documentation to find the keyword for your desired breed

3. Rename the name tag using an anvil with the exact keyword (e.g., "tabby", "siamese", "calico")

4. Apply the name tag to a cat by right-clicking it

5. The cat will retain its breed appearance and display the custom name above its head

Tips

• Breed keywords are case-sensitive in most cases—verify the exact spelling from the supported list
• You can name a cat anything you want, but only name tags containing the breed keywords will change its appearance
• Once a cat has been named with a breed keyword, its breed is locked and won't change
• This works on both wild cats and cats you've already tamed
