Extract and Manipulate Text from Signs and Chat

Getting Strings from Your World

Strings are the foundation of text manipulation in MoreIotas. You can extract them directly from signs placed in the world—simply target a sign with the appropriate hex action to read its contents. You can also capture chat messages as strings, allowing you to process player input or system messages programmatically.

Combining and Splitting Strings

Once you have strings, use concatenation actions to join multiple strings together. To break strings apart, use the split action, which divides a string at a specified delimiter and returns the resulting pieces. This is useful for parsing structured text like coordinates or commands.

Comparing and Parsing

Compare strings for equality or ordering to make decisions in your hex patterns. Convert strings to numbers using the parse action—this lets you extract numeric data from text input. Reverse this process by converting numbers back to their string representation when you need to display or log results.

Practical Example

Read a sign containing "10,20,30", split it by commas, parse each segment into a number, and use those values in calculations or to construct vectors for further magical operations.
