Finding Fossils in Any Biome

Where Fossils Spawn

More Fossils Mod distributes fossil generation across every Overworld biome, not just the traditional desert, swamp, and mangrove swamp locations. This means you can find fossils while exploring forests, mountains, plains, and other biomes you visit regularly.

How to Search Effectively

Fossils generate underground at various depths. Dig down or explore caves to increase your chances of encountering them. While fossils can appear anywhere in the Overworld, they remain most common in deserts, swamps, and mangrove swamps—roughly 70% more frequent there.

If you're specifically hunting fossils, these three biomes are still your best bet. However, if you're already mining or caving in other biomes, keep an eye out; you may stumble upon fossils as a bonus discovery.

Special Case: The Deep Dark

The Deep Dark biome is exceptional—fossils spawn approximately 160% more commonly there than in standard biomes. If you have access to the Deep Dark and adequate equipment to survive it, this biome offers the highest fossil density in the mod.
