Managing Baby Mobs in Farms and Enclosures
Setting Up Safe Enclosures
When housing baby mobs, especially hostile ones, ensure your enclosure is secure. Baby hostile mobs can still deal damage and will attack if provoked. Use walls at least two blocks high to prevent escapes, and keep lighting low for hostile mobs to prevent them from despawning.
Feeding and Care
Baby passive mobs require the same food as adults to grow. Provide adequate space for movement—cramped conditions stress mobs and slow growth. Keep babies separated from hostile mobs to prevent accidental damage.
Containment Tips
- Use fences or walls to create dedicated baby mob areas
- Avoid placing baby hostile mobs near your base unless heavily secured
- Keep water sources available for aquatic babies (Dolphin, Squid, Salmon)
- Ensure adequate light for passive babies, darkness for hostile ones
Preventing Despawn
Name your baby mobs using a name tag to prevent them from despawning. This is especially useful if you want to keep specific babies for breeding or observation purposes.
